Left the Group

I added you myself, the night you beat Jamie at pool,
you renamed the chat "Lake House", and Jamie typed, "Okay, he's cool."
Two summers of "who's driving?" and your voice notes from the car,
then last night on my doorstep you said, "I don't know where we are."

You said, "We'll talk tomorrow," and I held on to the "we",
I didn't know you'd tell eleven people, and one of them was me.

You didn't tell me we were over, you just left the group,
eleven phones lit up at 2:14 and kept me in the loop.
Ten of them saw it, and not one of them knew what to write,
Mia started typing, then she stopped, I watched the dots till light.
And I'm still in here with everyone, pretending I'm okay,
'cause you couldn't say it to my face, so you said it in grey.

Your birthday dinner's still pinned up top, Friday, half past eight,
and no one's had the heart to cancel, so it's still a date.

you can leave a group, but you can't take back a word you said.

you said it in the group, and then you just left the group.
Your "she's the one" is still up there, two years above the grey,
you can leave a group, but every word you said in there will stay.
And they're all still here, still mine, the way they were before you,
so you can keep the silence, I'm staying in the group.
